A carnivorous, blues-singing plant intent on ruling the world sounds like the plot of an old science fiction movie, but it’s really the star of the smash musical, Little Shop of Horrors, being performed by the Johnson Fine Arts Department.

Known for catchy songs such as Suddenly Seymour, Somewhere That’s Green, and the title song, Little Shop of Horrors has become a toe-tapping, laugh-out-loud stage sensation that spoofs its own beginnings as a B sci-fi horror movie.

The Howard Ashman—Alan Menken musical tells the story of love sick floral assistant Seymour Krelborn and Audrey II, the mysterious plant he acquires during a solar eclipse. But when the plant begins to sing, suck blood, and devour customers, Seymour realizes he has more than getting the girl of his dreams to worry about!

Little Shop of Horrors features Josh Taliaferro as Seymour, Christina Kelly as Audrey, Nicolas Thorpe as Mushnik, Andrew Hardy as Orin, Macklin MacKenzie as the voice of Audrey II, and Jaclyn Rivera, Victoria Trujillo, Kandia Jackson, Emily Pimentel, Lizzy Spencer and Laura Trujillo as the Skid Row chorus of urchins.
