NEISD campuses participate in TMEA Convention

Music programs across the district are participating in the Texas Music Educators Association annual Convention, held Feb. 10 - 13 here in San Antonio.

The MacArthur High School String Orchestra, led by Dr. Jan Garverick, will serve as a demo orchestra for Dr. Jim Kjelland's "It's What You Don't Say: Nonverbal Teaching Strategies" presentation on Thursday, Feb. 11. They will continue to participate in Kjelland's next presentation, titled "Bowing for Dummies: Unlocking Orchestral Bowing Secrets." On Friday, Garverick will serve as one of three presenters during the "Garnering Recognition and Support of your Orchestra Program" session.

Dianna Jarvis, Bush Middle School choir director, will lead a clinic on Saturday, Feb. 13 which will cover teaching sight reading.

Reagan High School Assistant Choir Director Mary Cowart will serve as an Alto I Section Leader for the All-State Women's Choir. The All-State choirs will perform on Saturday, Feb. 13. NEISD has 37 music students selected to a Texas All-State music group.

Garner Middle School's Orchestra Director Phyllis Malone will present a clinic on Saturday, Feb. 13: "Building a Successful Middle School Orchestra Program in an Urban Setting."
