BUS DRIVER

TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) or Possess Valid Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver  License with Passenger (P) and School Bus (s) Endorsements
  • Driving record that meets the requirements of the District/State
  • Must be able to pass physical-Human Performance Evaluation (HPE) and drug test 
  • Texas Department of Public Safety School Bus Certification or must obtain within 90 days
MAJOR PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Operates the vehicle in a safe and efficient manner
  • Conducts thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and special equipment and notifies vehicle maintenance of needed repairs
  • Inspects bus by checking fuel, oil, water, tires, lights, brakes and steering to ensure bus can be operated safely before driving
  • Ensures proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, tire checker and reflector
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and inform supervisor of any conditions that are not correctable immediately
  • Observes all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses
  • Ensures the safety, welfare and orderly conduct of passengers while on the bus
  • Communicates effectively with school staff, students, parents, law enforcement officials and the motoring public
  • Reports all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, mechanical failures and completes required reports
  • Effectively apply general concepts of developmental psychology and behavioral modification techniques in ensuring students safe conduct on the bus
  • Operates two-way radio equipment and cellular telephone to communicate with the Transportation Office
  • Attends and complete required training programs to maintain safety certification
  • Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as may be assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

NOTE: Bus Drivers will receive a 0.25 cents/hour incremental increase every 88 school days during the first year based on performance - up to a max of $12.00/hour
MINIMUM OF 25 HOUR WORK WEEK OFFERED.

HOURLY:
$11.50-$13.97 PAY GRADE: O3 WORK DAYS: 177
