New principals named for NEISD campuses 


The North East ISD Board of Trustees recently approved the appointments of several principals within the district.  

Michael Cardona was named principal of Robert E. Lee High School. Cardona replaces Michael Keranen. Cardona joined the NEISD family in 1999 and served most recently as principal of Driscoll Middle School. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas A&M – College Station and a Master of Science degree from Texas A&M – Kingsville. Cardona has 16 years of experience in education. He has held positions as a special education teacher and assistant principal (AP), including time as an AP at MacArthur High School.

"I am really excited about this opportunity and admire the traditions of Lee," said Cardona. "I want to empower the Lee students to make good decisions, to see the big picture and the opportunities available to them through education. I want them to see that there are no limits to what they can do."

"The principal at Lee has a unique opportunity to connect the diverse magnet programs with the traditional campus, while building on the school's 50 years of rich history," said Richard A. Middleton, superintendent of schools.

Peter Martinez was named the principal of Driscoll Middle School, and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Trinity University and a Master of Science Degree from Our Lady of the Lake University in 1996. He also received a second Master of Education Degree from Trinity University in 2005. Most recently, he was an assistant principal at Roosevelt High School. Martinez joined NEISD in 2006 and has 11 years of experience. 

Tina Reck was named principal of East Terrell Hills Elementary. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a Masters of Education Degree from Trinity University. Reck was with Clear Spring Elementary as an assistant principal, and she joined NEISD in 2001 and has 18 years of experience in education.

Lori Gerdin was named principal of Ridgeview Elementary, and she was most recently the principal of Castle Hills Elementary. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree from West Texas State University and a Master of Arts Degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio. Gerdin joined the NEISD family in 1991 and has 17 years of experience in education. 

Eric Wicker was appointed principal of Castle Hills Elementary. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master of Arts Degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Most recently, he was an assistant principal at Larkspur Elementary. Wicker has been with NEISD since 2005 and has 14 years of experience in education.

Terri Chidgey was appointed principal of Tuscany Heights Elementary, which will open for the 2010-2011 school year. She received a Bachelor of Education Degree from Texas State University and a Master of Education Degree from Trinity University.  Most recently, she was principal of Stone Oak Elementary. Chidgey joined NEISD in 1976 as a third-grade teacher at Wilshire Elementary.

Kristen Ray was named the principal of Stone Oak Elementary. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Texas Tech University and a Master of Education Degree from Wayland Baptist University. Most recently, she was an assistant principal at Hardy Oak Elementary. Ray has been with NEISD since 2000 and has 15 years of experience in education.

Dr. Ivonna Gonzales was named the principal of Bulverde Green Elementary, which will also open in 2010-2011. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1986 from Baylor University, a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Education Degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Most recently, she was the principal of Dellview Elementary. Dr. Gonzales joined the NEISD family in 2005 and has 23 years of experience in education.

Martha Rodriguez-Staufert was appointed principal of Dellview Elementary. She received a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies Degree and a Master of Educational Administration from the University of Texas at El Paso. Most recently, she was an assistant principal at El Dorado Elementary and has been with NEISD since 2005. Rodriguez-Staufert has 16 years of experience in education.

Rudy Jimenez was named the principal of Eisenhower Middle School. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Austin. Most recently, he served as an assistant principal at Lee High School. Jimenez joined the NEISD family in 2004 and has 14 years of experience in education.
