Wood students show talent in Wrangler Idol

The choir program at Wood Middle School presented season III of Wrangler Idol on June 2, 2009. Only 10 students were chosen from an audition pool of more than 40 to compete for the highly sought after title of Wrangler Idol. After all of the performers sang, an instant on-line system tallied the votes of students throughout the school who were viewing the live closed-circuit broadcast.

The winner was eighth grader Rhyma Castillo for her performance of Sandi Thom's "I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker with Flowers in My Hair." When later asked for her first thoughts upon being announced as the 2009 Wrangler Idol, Castillo responded, "Oh sweet Lord, thank you!"

This is the third year in a row Wood has put on Wrangler Idol. The show was performed in front of a packed house of screaming sixth, seventh and eighth graders. Later that night, Wrangler Idol Rewind gave a live recap showing each performer for friends and family members who were not able to attend the sold out afternoon show.
